Is Getting Involved in any Games is Necessary for Children?

Sports whether team based or individual are a great activity for children that provide a variety of benefits other than physical activity. These days, the childhood obesity problems are being discussed mainly worldwide. Childhood obesity rates have skyrocketed in the last few decades. Kids just don’t get out and play like they used to before. If we don’t figure this problem out and find solution, these overweight kids are going to grow up to be overweight adults. And that means heart disease, diabetes, and host of other health issues.

Participation in sports and games helps children in many ways. The first and foremost benefit is exercise. Children often spend more time watching television and playing video games. But sports practice and games provide an opportunity for exercise that can help kids keep in shape and healthy. Another use of this is development of social skills. Sports participation can help children develop social skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. They learn to interact not only with other children of their age, but also with other individuals who are their coaches and other sports officials. Kids learn leadership skills, team building skills and communication skills that will help them in school, their future career and personal relationships.

Participation in sports can have huge positive impact on a child’s self esteem and confidence. Children who participate in sports get praise and encouragement from coaches and parents, which help to build self-confidence. They also learn to trust in their own abilities and push themselves. Constructive criticism is also a major part of sports participation, and young athletes learn to accept such criticism and learn to use it to their benefit. It is no surprise that children who participate in athletics excel in academics as well. They can apply the same principles of dedication and hard work learned through sports participation to their studies.

Sports participation promotes health and wellness not only through childhood but throughout a child’s lifetime. “Lifetime” sports such as swimming and golf are especially beneficial because the child can continue to play as an adult, benefiting from the physical activity. Children who participate in sports might also be more aware of healthy food choices. Although sports participation is an excellent avenue to promote health and wellness, parents and coaches must encourage healthy living and be positive role models as well.

Now the important part is the encouragement towards sports participation. Parents can be the major running force behind it. But other than parents schools and teachers can play a vital role here. Fortunately there are en numbers of International schools in India who provide never ending support to children. Schools like Top international school in Hyderabad stand ahead with academics at the same time immense encouragement to students in sports.
