There are quite a few misconceptions about what actually constitutes international schools in India. Basically, any school that operates on a curriculum that is different from the national board enforced by the government of the country is considered an international school. Any school that has just hired a few foreigners as teachers won’t be considered an international schools. Ironically, some sly owners of private schools just place an ‘international name’ on their institution in order to trick unaware parents.

With an increase in the awareness of the importance of education, along with the rising population, state schools are being flooded by children, especially in undeveloped countries. A single classroom has to hold forty to fifty pupils and a single teacher has to cope with just as many students. All this leads to two basic things: lack of attention towards each student and the deterioration in the teaching standards of the educators. However, the International schools, on the other hand, have a restricted enrolment of student’s population each year. They believe that the lesser the number of students, the more time the teachers can spend with each student, which would raise the level of the standard of education in their school.

The boards of international schools usually have a better syllabus than the ones used by the government boards, especially in educationally backward nations. For instance, IGCSEs tend to change their syllabi quite often in order to make sure that it is up to date with current events. The content is not overly difficult either, and it is designed while considering the educational level of the student in each respective grade. In the case of state schools, the syllabus content sometimes is dated from forty or fifty years ago and there’s no sign of updated materials.

International schools follow teaching procedures that aim to bring the best out of a particular pupil. Teachers, for instance, are trained to pick out the special capabilities of each and every student. In any other school, there is a high probability that the talent would remain unsupported and go to waste. The unit tests and exams are not taken too often either. An exam per semester or term is considered effectual in testing the students’ learning without adding unnecessary burden on them.

The courses and the syllabus followed these international schools, ensure a very practical learning approach towards the child’s learning and understanding. These schools pay greater attention to how to cope with children’s abilities to learn and memorize whatever home-work they are given. Generally, kids are given very less of home-work and more of school related tasks, so that teachers are able to monitor the child’s progress.

Also, the teaching is made fun and activity related so that students don’t get bored and generates a dislike for the subject. The teachers are asked to prepare a daily activity report of the student, based on which parents are asked to come and discuss their child’s progress in matters concerning the child’s educational field. Also, regular field trips are organised to various locations for students to get a hold of ground reality, or to bring them awareness about practical approach to their theoretical books. These trips are much needed breaks from the monotonous life that these kids lead these days, and are necessary at the same.
